Evidence of Sub‐MeV EMIC‐Driven Trapped Electron Flux Dropouts From GPS Observations

نویسندگان

چکیده

For many years, it was believed that resonant interactions between electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves and radiation belt electrons were restricted to electron energies >1–2 MeV. In recent however, a growing body of experimental evidence has shown EMIC can cause the scattering loss down sub-MeV energies. Using measurements trapped flux from Global Positioning System satellite constellation, we investigate ability significant depletions populations 4 ≤ L* 5. first time, present statistical demonstrating global decreases in response wave activity. Although find losses extend energies, also show strong support for preferentially substantial ultra-relativistic belts.

Electron Density Profiles Derived From Ground-Based GPS Observations

Nowadays GPS is widely used to monitor the ionosphere. However, the current results from ground-based GPS observations only provide some information on the horizontal structure of the ionosphere, and are extremely restricted in mapping its vertical structure. In this paper, tomography reconstruction technique was used to image 3D ionospheric structure with ground-based GPS. The first result of ...

Nonlinear inward particle flux component in trapped electron mode turbulence

Trapped electron turbulence is shown to have a significant inward particle flux component associated with nonlinear deviations of the density-potential cross correlation from the quasilinear value. The cross correlation is altered because the density advection nonlinearity mixes a linearly stable eigenmode with the eigenmode of the instability. The full nonlinear flux is evaluated by solving sp...

Trapped Quintessential Inflation from Flux Compactifications

Quintessential inflation is studied using a string modulus as the inflaton– quintessence field. It is assumed that the modulus crosses an enhanced symmetry point (ESP) in field space. Particle production at the ESP temporarily traps the modulus resulting in a period of inflation. After reheating, the modulus freezes due to cosmological friction at a large value, such that its scalar potential i...

SAR interferometry: Tropospheric corrections from GPS observations

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) techniques have been recognised as an ideal tool for many ground deformation monitoring applications. However, the spatially and temporally variable delay of the radar signal propagating through the atmosphere is a major limitation to accuracy. The dominant factor to be considered is the tropospheric heterogeneity, which can lead to misinterpreta...

Inertial Navigation Electro-Optical Aiding During GPS Dropouts

Inertial navigation with low-cost IMU’s can be an acceptable sole navigation source during short periods of GPS signal dropout due to intentional or unintentional interference. However, as the dropout period continues, the inertial navigation error reach unacceptable levels. In this paper, a technique is presented where relative or absolute position estimates derived from onboard captured image...
